Bringing In More Traffic Using RSS

More targeted traffic was one of the first benefits I noticed when I first started publishing my RSS channel.  One of the key ingredients to better site traffic via RSS is syndication, the process of showing your RSS feed and content on other web sites.  Studies show that web sites with RSS feeds have more of their visitors click over to the RSS feeds then who actually remain and browse on their web site. While, this may not be a good statistic for the webmasters who are displaying the content, this is very good if you are syndicating your RSS feed on their web site.

Another key to more traffic using your RSS feed is content and keywords. Web sites that contain RSS channels tend to be indexed by search engines more often because they are frequently updated and give the illusion that your web site is constantly changing.
Be sure to always write and add content and keyword rich content. At the end of your articles, be sure to include a visible paragraph of keywords relevant to your article. This will help search engine robots find your channel.
Be sure to keep your eyes on Google, as I’m sure they will soon follow MSN and Yahoo.

Here are some tips to create a search engine friendly RSS feeds:

•    Your rss file should have the filename extension of “.xml”. I’d suggest using the filename “filename.xml”. Seems to be a standard that some RSS bots are looking for.

•    Make sure you have the LINK tag in the <HEAD> portion of your homepage. This will direct spiders to your RSS file. Use the following syntax:
<link rel=”alternate” type=”application/rss+xml” title=”rss” href=”http://www.yourwebsite.com/filename.xml”>

•    Add new content to your RSS file everyday to ensure frequent visits by your target audience.

•    If you post messages in forums, be sure to add a link to your RSS feed in your signature.  Search engines will pick these up rather quickly.

Regular Search Engines are not the only type of search engines that can bring your web site more traffic. You can also gain more traffic by submitting your RSS feed to RSS search engines. MSN is getting ready to launch an RSS feed directory and Yahoo is in the process of creating a RSS feed directory as well. (more on yahoo later in this guide).  Also be sure to read the 55 top RSS feed submission sites section in this manual for 55 of the top places you should submit your RSS feed.

Here are some useful tools that will submit your RSS feed to the top RSS feed search engines. The first 10 engines are free, but you must upgrade the software to submit to all the available engines. If you are a busy webmaster like myself who needs to cut corners any chance you can get, these software will save you some time: http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/down … _software/

I hope you enjoyed this article, Thanks.
